German as a Foreign Language (DaF - A1)

Course Content and Objectives

In the German as a Foreign Language (DaF) – A1 Level course, your child will gradually develop the linguistic foundation to confidently participate in typical everyday situations in German.
The goal is communicative competence: your child will learn to introduce themselves, ask and answer simple questions, request and provide information, and hold short conversations on familiar topics.

We train all four areas (speaking, listening, reading, writing) in a child-friendly and practical way.

Depending on the age group, children will work on topics such as: greetings & introductions, names & origin, numbers, school & classroom, family, animals, colors & shapes, food & drink, daily routine. Later topics include clothing, health, appointments/calendar, media, festivals, nature, travel/transport, and shopping.

The complete course to reach A1 level is divided into 2 sub-courses:

  • Introductory Course (A1-1)
  • Advanced Course (A1-2)

Each sub-course runs for 12 weeks. The advanced course can only be booked with appropriate prior knowledge or after completing the introductory course.

For each sub-course:

  • 1x 60 minutes of live instruction (Zoom) on a fixed weekday
  • 1x approx. 60 minutes of homework/practice until the next lesson
  • This makes the time commitment easy to plan: a total of approx. 2 hours per week.

Important: A maximum of 8 children are possible per group. A session will take place as soon as at least 5 registrations are received. We will decide which sessions will take place on April 1, 2026 – after which you will receive a confirmation of your appointment and further information about the course start.

After completing both A1 sub-courses, further courses to reach A2 level are planned.

Structure and Concept

The course is clearly structured: each week has a theme and corresponding learning objectives. Children learn new words and sentence patterns, apply them directly in speaking, and then consolidate them through manageable homework assignments.

The lessons follow a recurring rhythm:

  • Arrival & Review (brief activation)
  • New linguistic building blocks (vocabulary/grammar in small steps)
  • Application (dialogues, role-playing, descriptions, small tasks)
  • Consolidation & Transfer (homework for review and preparation)
  • Finally: review or a small final task so that the children can show what they have already mastered confidently.
