German as an addition
What German Lessons Achieve
"Language is the key to the world." With these words, Wilhelm von Humboldt succinctly expressed the great influence language has on our lives. In their resolutions on educational standards, the ministers of education state: Language is of fundamental importance for the cognitive, emotional, and social development of children. Language instruction helps students develop imagination and solve problems creatively. This creates essential prerequisites for learning success in all subjects.
For German-speaking children abroad, instruction in their mother tongue is invaluable for two reasons: Firstly, it makes an important contribution to identity and personality development. Secondly, it ensures that children master German in speech and writing just like their peers in Germany. This is especially crucial when a return is planned.
What Sets Our Courses Apart
The Deutsch Basis course series was specifically developed for schoolchildren who have a long school day to manage on-site. The content is somewhat streamlined. Our classic Deutsch course series fully covers all areas of German instruction provided for in the curricula.
Both course series are designed to meet the requirements of all federal states. Whether you settle on the Baltic Sea, in the Ruhr area, or on the Swabian Alb upon returning to Germany, your child will be optimally prepared.
- State-Approved
- According to the Curricula of All 16 Federal States
- Fully Developed for Non-Educators
- Methodologically Varied
- Designed for Children
Prerequisites
The recommended age for enrollment in first grade is six years.
To ensure children are neither under- nor over-challenged, proof of previous learning level is required for placement in grades 2 through 6. A promotion or mid-year report card from a German-language school serves as proof.
If no report card is available, we determine the appropriate grade level using placement tests. For the evaluation of the tests, we charge a processing fee of €70.00 each for the subjects German and Mathematics.
Deutsch Basis
Content and Objectives
These German courses fully cover the areas of spelling, grammar, and vocabulary work according to the curricula of all 16 federal states.
The areas of composition and literature have been significantly reduced out of consideration for your child's full school schedule. They are included in the two accompanying modules, which can be completed independently of the basic course over 14 days each. These topics are usually also covered in the respective language of instruction at the local school.
With Deutsch Basis, your child develops a solid understanding of the German language in speech and writing. A successful return to the German school system is thus ensured.
Workload
Each basic course is designed for one school year and divided into lessons. Your child needs on average only 25 minutes of processing time per lesson.
Typically, five lessons are scheduled per week. You can flexibly distribute the weekly workload of approximately two hours across the weekdays. Thus, Deutsch Basis offers you the ideal supplement to attending school on-site.
- Tip: Why not ask at your child's school whether an exemption for mother tongue instruction is possible?
Literature and Composition Modules
Our Deutsch Basis courses include one literature module and one composition module each for grades 1 through 4.
These modules are each designed with a processing time of 2 weeks and optimally complement our basic courses. With little time investment, they also provide your child with a good foundation in the German language in the areas of composition and literature.
Further information about the modules can be found on the page of the respective basic course.
Deutsch Basis Courses Print
For grades 1 through 5, we offer our Deutsch Basis courses in a printed version. All learning booklets, attachment blocks, and test sheets are sent by post as printed material together with the associated supplementary materials.
Deutsch Basis Courses Online
In grades 4 through 7, our Deutsch Basis courses are available as online courses. All learning content, exercises, and tests are completed in the learning portal. Generally, no additional material is sent by post.
